MJSF supports NICH
National Institute of Child Health (NICH) is the only hospital in the public sector providing round the clock surgical cover to children and presently is one of the largest and the only children hospital of the province of Sindh. NICH is a 500 bedded hospital and is providing tertiary care services for almost all types of pediatric diseases. Keeping in view the need for further improvement at the children's hospital, Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation decided to set up a Day Care Surgery Unit and Emergency Operation Theater at NICH. The project took Eight months for completion and is expected to greatly enhance the quality of child care services being offered at NICH. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Jahangir Siddiqui, Mrs. Mahvash Siddiqui, Mr. Ali J Siddiqui, Mrs. Saira Siddiqui, Dr Jamal Raza of NICH, Mr. Iqbal Durrani, Secretary Health and many other notable dignitaries were present at this occasion. Mr. Ali J Siddiqui, CEO of Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation stated "We are pleased to have partnered with NICH for this initiative and we all need to encourage everyone to join hands to respond to the needs of this nation in a timely and effective manner. NICH is going from strength to strength and this gives us the drive and encouragement to further expand our support for such causes especially in the public sector". This support has resulted in numerous benefits being achieved for the patients and the hospital management such as freeing up space for 20 patients on a daily basis that are currently operated on in the main hospital and thepatients will be admitted and discharged few hours after surgery when fully conscious and pain free. Due to the provision of the Day Care Surgery it is expected that almost 40% of the existing load (a figure of about 4,000) shall be transferred to this department. These freed beds thus can be used for patients who need in patient management which will ultimately shorten the waiting list. This will also reduce chances of cross and hospital acquired infections while ensuring additional expenses incurred during a hospital stay are eliminated. This unit will benefit about 4,000 families as a direct effect and almost equal number will be indirect beneficiary because of bed availability. Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation & JS Bank

In light of the massive ongoing floods that have engulfed our country, devastation and suffering are widespread; many have been rendered homeless without any food and water.  The Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that is currently heavily involved in this challenging endeavor by providing assistance to the affectees of the massive flood. The Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and JS Bank have been a strong advocate of various philanthropic activities in the past as well, including extensive relief efforts in the 2005 earthquake, 2008 IDP crisis and the 2010 floods.

Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and JS Bank responded to the severe flooding by providing immediate assistance to thousands of people whose livelihoods, homes, and belongings have been destroyed or severely damaged by the floodwaters. In the second phase of flood relief operation, the primary area of focus of the foundation was to provide medical services to all those who are suffering from infectious diseases. Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and JS Bank supported the distribution of medicines and medically treated 22,134 patients from 20th – September – 2011 to 3rd – October -2011 in districts of Badin, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Dadu and Khairpur districts as part of their Phase 2 of the flood relief campaign. The areas that were covered in phase 1 included Badin, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Mithi.

To extend care and support to the families displaced due to the recent flood in Sindh, Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and JS Bank sent out its health team comprising doctors, paramedical staff, dispensers and helpers along with its fleet of ambulances to provide assistance to the affectees.

The situation on ground in the worst affected areas of Sindh continues to be the same, with scaling up of aid to kick-start livelihoods being the major challenge. There is a dire need to minimize the damage which is currently being caused by the lack of basic healthcare and amenities. We hope to alleviate the pain and suffering of many through the efforts of the foundation and the generous donations of various kinds.

Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation & JS Bank

In light of the massive ongoing floods that have engulfed the Sindh Province, devastation and suffering is widespread; many have been rendered homeless without any food and water.

The current flash floods unleashed by heavy monsoon rains have killed at least 342 people and injured over 630 since late last month, the majority of them in the province of Sindh. The floods have now affected over 7 million people and destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes across Sindh. 22 out of 23 districts of Sindh have been badly affected. More than 70% of the homes in villages and 30% in urban areas of Badin and Mirpurkhas have caved in, while the district has lost 70% of its crops.

Starvation, disease and weakness are widespread and the threat of infections is becoming increasingly intense. Amongst this diarrhea, malaria and water borne diseases are the highest. There is a dire need to minimize the damage which is currently being caused by the lack of basic healthcare and amenities. The primary area of focus of the foundation is to provide food, water and medicine to all those affected.

To extend care and support to the families displaced due to the recent flood in Sindh, Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and JS Bank sent out its health team comprising doctors, para-medical staff, dispensers and helpers along with its fleet of ambulances and food rations for more than 3,000 families, to provide assistance to the affectees. To date, medical attention to 10,229 patients along with food rations, water and basic medical supplies have been provided to an estimated 17,500 people in the affected areas which should last them for a period of 8-10 days. The areas that were covered in the initial phase from 3rd September to 12th September included Badin, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Mithi and the next phase will cover areas of Sanghar, Nawabshah, Dadu and Khairpur districts.

The situation is undoubtedly much worse than imagined as the number of affected people is overwhelming as opposed to the relief efforts that have been carried out. A lot needs to be done and urgent help is required. We hope to alleviate the pain and suffering of many through the efforts of the foundation and the generous donations of various kinds.
